During training in biofeedback the participant learns how to create optimal levels of coherence between the heart and brain as a self-regulating technique to manipulate body functions that are not usually under conscious control. Functions such as body temperature, heart rate, pain perception, blood pressure, muscle tension, and anxiety are manipulated using conscious breathing techniques. This allows for a sense of empowerment over your mental state after a few sessions of training. The process is painless as it only requires a sensor to be clipped to your finger or ear, providing feedback as visual prompts guide your breathing rate to an optimal coherence level. Eventually you will not need the device as the breathing rhythm will come naturally.
